“Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything you do. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. Serve them sincerely because of your reverent fear of the Lord. Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ. But if you do what is wrong, you will be paid back for the wrong you have done. For God has no favorites.” Colossians 3:22-25 NLT
In all my complaining about life, marriage, work, the economy, the state of our country, the state of the world, etc; God brought this scripture to my mind.
So many times I wonder what Christian service I should be doing; teaching, witnessing, working with kids, or the elderly, or the homeless; but I ignore the simpler, more present opportunities (and responsibility) of serving God by simply doing what His Word says. Things like submitting in service to my husband, my employer, those I come into contact with on a daily basis, regarding others as more important than myself, living in purity, adhering to the law of the land, etc.
In short, obedience to the things He has already revealed in His Word is elemental in our relationship with, and service to God. If I’m not doing this simple thing, why would He trust me with more?
Q: Has God given you any opportunities to simply respond to His Word today? If so, we’d love to hear about it!
