I’m reading through Leviticus right now (need I say more?) and wow, I cannot be happier to know that we are not dependent on daily sacrifices and a multitude of rules and rituals to have a relationship with God. My mind and memory aren’t what they used to be and I’m afraid I would constantly be transgressing one commandment or another, simply because I couldn’t keep track of it all. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad being a woman and not being a priest, but still, I think I might decimate the flock with all my unintentional transgressions alone. Thank God for His gift of salvation through Jesus Christ our Savior!
But now Christ has come as the high priest of the good things to come. He passed through the greater and more perfect tent not made with hands, that is, not of this creation, and he entered once for all into the most holy place not by the blood of goats and calves but by his own blood, and so he himself secured eternal redemption.
For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a young cow sprinkled on those who are defiled consecrated them and provided ritual purity, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our consciences from dead works to worship the living God.
And so he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the eternal inheritance he has promised, since he died to set them free from the violations committed under the first covenant.

The main reason we don’t do all that is because there’s no Temple. Yeshua states that not one jot or tittle of the Torah/Law will be done away with while heaven and earth remain (and no, He didn’t fulfil it all) (so, His perfect sacrifice didn’t do away with the sacrifices). So, therefore, they still apply. BUT – they require a Tabernacle/Temple to do the sacrifices in, and God destroyed that almost 2000 years ago, and has prevented one being built since.
As for the rest of the commandments (non-sacrificial) – they all apply, and they’re not that difficult. Keep every Saturday as a Sabbath. Circumcise your child on the 8th day. Hold a feast on certain named dates. Don’t eat certain listed animals. Don’t sleep with certain people. Etc.

I can totally follow your line of reasoning on the subject, though I still hold to my belief that Jesus’ perfect sacrifice did do away with all other sacrifices. Otherwise, what would be the point? But I agree that the major commandments are not that hard to follow. It’s all the intricacies of commands that I think would be difficult to remember. And there are many of them! So many. God bless and thanks for commenting. Good to have you back. 😊

We no longer can do the sacrifices as there is no Temple yet. What do you mean by “and a multitude of rules and rituals”?

All the requirements of the law and sacrifices. I’m curious, what are your thoughts about Hebrews chapter 10?

I just finished reading it. What do you want my thoughts on in Hebrews 10? Anything specific, like a verse?

Specifically verses 1-18. You said in your previous comment that we are not preforming sacrifices because there isn’t a temple yet. Just to clarify, are you saying we should be offering sacrifices if there was a temple? If so, Hebrews 10:1-18 speaks directly to that and I’m just curious what your thoughts are as to how this fits in with that.

Well, no, I don’t think so, as Yahushua/Jesus was also the Perfect Sacrifice. But in the thousand- year reign, there will be sacrifices. But until then, nada.

The idea that there will be sacrifices during the millennium is based solely on the temple described in Ezekiel 40-44. However this is not definitive and relies heavily on speculation, as the Bible doesn’t clearly refer to this temple as such.
There are some debates and pretty decent articles about it on the internet. One I found to be fair and comprehensive is: https://www.equip.org/article/making-sense-ezekiels-temple-vision/. But there are more. Let me know what you think, if you decide to read this or others.

I’d have to say that the jury is still out for me as to what this temple really is, but I can’t imagine there actually being sacrifices during the millennium, when we will be in the presence of the one who was sacrificed for the sins of all mankind. Seems unthinkable.

The conclusion that the temple in Ezekiel 40-44 being something that was meant to be is pretty pathetic. Not a very convincing article.

True… but the point of sending you the article was to show the arguments presented by all sides. In the end, no one can say for sure what this temple is and all we can do is speculate at this point.

Fair enough.

If you haven’t done a precept study on Leviticus I would encourage you to. Then follow it with Hebrews. As hard a book as Leviticus is to read it is a fascinating study, especially when coupled with Hebrews. But I’m still with you, thankful Jesus fulfilled it all!

That sounds like a great, but tedious study. 🙂 It definitely would be revealing though, no doubt.

You are right on both accounts.

Your declaration of faith reminds me of an ole hymnal…”My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus Christ, my righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.” Always stand on the Solid Rock, Dee, and you can’t go wrong. Blessings to you.
