I wish I could say the words in this song don’t apply to me; that I have it all together and my “eyes are not dry, my faith is not old, my heart is not hard, and my prayers are not cold”. But that would be dishonest of me. One thing I can always count on when listening to Keith Green lyrics–my heart will be exposed for the fraud that it can be at times. But even more so, I can always count on God’s mercy and grace toward me, as He opens my eyes to my need for repentance and restoration. His Word emphatically tells us,

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be miserable and mourn and weep; let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.” James 4:8-10 NASB
